Canoes & Kayaks
We have a range of fibreglass and polyethylene canoes and kayaks for hire, for 1, 2 or 3 people. All have built-in bouyancy. You can use a single or double-ended paddle according to preference and availability. The single blades are good for for canoes for leisurely paddling or dragon-boat-style exercise; the double blades are good for single kayaks or canoes where the workload is unevenly distributed (ie dad and daughter).
Hire Rates
The fee structure is based on a per-hire launch fee plus a fixed fee for each half-hour period. The rate for an extended hire is negotiable, depending on day, demand and duration.
One PFD (personal floatation device) appropriate for each person on board is provided. Although it is not mandatory to wear one within the allowable hire limits under normal conditions, we do ask you to acknowledge that they were provided and we recommend that they be worn at all times and especially if paddling alone.
Funyak (single) – suitable for children – launch fee is $5 – each subsequent half-hour is $4 – deposit is $10
Standard Kayak (single) – sit in or sit on – launch fee is $5 – each subsequent half-hour is $6 – deposit is $20
Premium Kayak (single) – sit in or sit on – launch fee is $10 – each subsequent half-hour is $8 – deposit is $40
NB Some of these canoes are either well looked after or near-new in modern plastics, and may be available for sale at significant savings over new boats
Kayaks (double) – none currently available
Canoe (double) – plastic – launch fee is $10 – each subsequent half-hour is $6 – deposit is $20
NB These canoes can carry a maximum all-up occupant weight of 150kg
Canoe (double) – fibreglass – launch fee is $10 – each subsequent half-hour is $6 – deposit is $20
Canoe (triple) – launch fee is $11 – each subsequent half-hour is $7 – deposit is $20
Canoe (family – 2 adults, 2 youger people) – launch fee is $12 – each subsequent half-hour is $8 – deposit is $20
Deposits are fully refundable if the kayak/canoe/boat is returned on time, intact and with all supplied equipment. Boats returned in an unhireable condition (ie full of mud, sand, water, fish hooks, bait, etc will incur a cleaning fee of not less than $10).
Winter Mid-week Special - hire any kayak or canoe before 12:30 and receive a free cup of coffee or 375ml can of soft drink (offer not valid with other discounts or group bookings)
Frequent Hyer Club – Regular users of our facility can obtain boats at discounted rates, easier admin and early notification of any special offers or events. Ask for details at your next visit.
Hire Limits
Upriver (to the left) limit is the area known as The Needles, just short of the old bullock trail between Engadine and Lucas Heights. A short walk upstream will take you to freshwater swimming holes.
Downriver (to the right) limit is the Georges River, identified by Como Rail Bridge and a lot of water. If you need to pop under the bridge to Como Marina for coffee or a comfort break, that’s OK.
Validity
Rates are valid until further notice and we reserve the right to republish prices at any time.
We take VISA and Mastercard as well as cash for the hire fee, but it is easier if the deposit is in cash as 90% of deposits are returned intact and supplementary payments do tend to be small (in EFTPOS terms). Your assistance is appreciated.

hi just wondering if you have to book for canoe/kayak hire for a sunday?
Hi Natasha – at this time of year we usually have plenty of boats available, but if the day is particularly fine (as it was last Sunday) it may be worth a last-minute check.
Hi
just wanted yo know wether there would be any triple canoes for hire tomorrow? All we need is two for three hours. How much would this cost exactly?
Ellie
Hi Ellie,
Yes, plenty of triples not yet booked, but if it’s a nice day give us a call on 02 9545 2584 before you come just to double check. 3 hours in a triple would normally be $53 but we may be able to improve on that if demand at the time is low. We do also ask for a deposit (preferably $20 cash but car keys work too) which is refundable if all goes well.
We look forward to seeing you down here.
Regards
Jon
Hi, I was looking into buying a second hand kayak for recreation and fitness. I havn’t really had much experience and was wondering if you had any for sale? What price range do you sell kayaks for?
Hi Chris,
We did have a few for sale but they all went within a few days of each other. Price obviously varies according to style, age and condition, but most kayaks, if looked after, hold their price pretty well and we generally get more than 50% of the new price for a comparable model.
We are not a second hand dealer – too expensive to get the NSW trader’s licence – so we only advertise for sale on behalf of the original owner and they set the price they want.
If you are in the area, note we are having a supplier’s demo day on Saturday 29th Jan (tomorrow!) at 9am. Come along and talk to the experts, try a few and maybe pick up a good package deal on the day. Even if you aren’t in the market for a new one, the knowledge you’ll pick up can’t hurt.
I’ll let you know if anything else second hand comes along.

Jon
Hi
Your double canoe can carry only upto 150 kg?
I dont think thats quite generous…
Regards
Hi Julian
Sorry if the text is misleading. We have some canoes with a 150kg load limit; if a larger canoe is required we have them also. The Bushranger with 2 or 3 seats can take 260kgs and the Finn Reflection can take a family of four if the children are not too big. We also have a brand new Reflection for sale – $1300 with 2 paddles!

Hi, I was just wondering how long you would expect it to take to get to the needles? And are the swimming pools worth a visit? Also, I have read the hire rates, do you offer a half or full day rate? We are after either 3 kayaks/canoes, or the triple (is that suitable for 3 adults, none are overweight) on most probably a Monday. And just one more thing, how long would you expect it to take to get to the combo bridge limit?
Many thanks
Hi Christine,
It’s about 5kms to the Needles so I’d allow an hour of steady paddling. Unless you time it just right, you’re probably going to have some adverse tidal flow either going or coming so add maybe 10 minutes to the round trip and then add a bit more if it is windy as canoeing is like cycling – even if you do a u-turn the wind is still in your face!
Como is a fraction further so I’d allow 2.5 hours for the return trip.
We do offer discounts for longer hire periods but please call for details as we have some midweek group books and will need to work around them. Similarly we can provide you with a mix of boats to suit your requirements according to the ages and physical strength of your party. I’d suggest you do not plan to tow someone except in a short term emergency; it is hard work! If you have someone who wants a kayak but may get tired, save a space in a larger canoe and then tow the empty kayak when necessary
Hi, I was just wondering if there is around 5 standard single kayaks available for tomorrow? How much would this cost per kayak for 2-3 hours? And are students under the age of 16 able to use kayaks on the river without adult supervision? Because one of them has their Bronze Medallion.
Thankyou.
Hi Alana,
As you can see we don’t check for comments every day so if you need a quick answer it’s best to phone us – 02 9545 2584.
5 kayaks would not normally be a problem, especially at weekends when most people seem to favour canoes.
Cost is $5 per hire + $6 per half-hour use, so 2 hours would cost $29.
Hopefully this better weather will last until the weekend.
Regards
Jon
